استفاده از این نرم افزار شما را قادر می کند تا  یک یا گروهی از دستگاهها را در هر نقطه از جهان به دو روش Communities و Cluster مدیریت کنید . به کمک CNAشما می توانید پیکربندی های موردنظر خود را بدون نیاز به محیط CLI انجام دهید . همچنین میتوانید چندین دستگاه و پورت را در مدت زمان نسبتا کمی برای اهدافی مانند ساخت VLAN  و QOS و گرفتن گزارش و مانیتورینگ و به روز کردن نرم افزارها و دیگر ویژگی های شبکه پیکر بندی کنید . GUI)Graphical user interface) در نرم افزار Network Assistant برای شما امکان دیدن شبکه را به شرح زیر محیا میکند :

Topology View

در این صفحه شما دستگاهای موجود  که شرایط لازم برای اتصال به شبکه را دارا هستند را به همراه لینک های ارتباطی موجود، می توانید مشاهده کنید .

Front-panel View

این گزینه به شما این امکان را میدهد که وضعیت دستگاهها را در آن واحد (Real-time) مانیتور کنید .امکان مشاهده وضعیت فیزیکی دستگاه و LED پورتها را به شما میدهد. درابتدای ورود به محیط نرم افزار از کاربر پرسیده می شود که قصد ورود و کار با کدامیک از محیط های Communities و Cluster  را دارد. اصول خدماتی که به کاربران ارائه می شود در دومحیط تقریبا یکسان است اما تفاوتهایی نیز وجود دارد.

 

Communities

• اکثر دستگاهای سیسکو مانند روترها  ، سوئیچ ها و Access point‌ ها را میتوان به این روش مدیریت کرد
• تعداد سیستم های تحت مدیریت شما محدود به ۴۰ سیستم است.
• امن کردن ارتباط  بین دستگاهها و دستگاهها با سرور CNA
• چنانچه ارتباط شما به یکی از دستگاههای از بین برود میتوانید دستگاههای زیرشاخه را مدیریت کنید.
• امکان Enable‌ کردن CDP‌ بر روی پورتها
• این روش صورت پیش فرض توانایی جستجو در شبکه برای یافتن دستگاههایی که واجد شرابط  هستند را دارا می باشد.
• امکان نشان دادن IP اختصاص داده شده است به هر دستگاه.

Cluster

• فقط مدیریت سوییچ ها
• تعداد سیستم های تحت مدیریت شما محدود به ۱۶ سیستم است.
• امن کردن ارتباط بین دستکاهها با سرور CNS
• چنانچه ارتباط شما با یک دستگاه از بین برود شما قادر به مدیریت دستگاهها زیر شاخه نمی باشید.
• عدم توانایی در Enable‌ کردن CDP  بر روی پورتها.
• دستگاههایی که در یک کلاستر عضو هستند نمیتوانند در کلاستری دیگر شریک شوند.

Cisco Network Assistant 6.3.0

Network Assistant is an application that manages standalone devices and clusters of devices from anywhere in your intranet. Using its GUI, you can perform multiple configuration tasks without using command-line interface (CLI) commands. You can apply actions to multiple devices and ports at the same time for VLAN and quality of service (QoS) settings, inventory and statistics reports, link and device monitoring, software upgrades, and many other networking features.

Network Assistant gives you two graphical views of a cluster:

•A topology view, showing devices that are eligible to join the cluster, link information between devices, and other connected clusters.

•A front-panel view from which you can monitor the real-time status of the devices and perform many configuration tasks. The devices and port LEDs in the view look like the physical devices and port LEDs.

A cluster can contain up to 16 connected, cluster-capable Catalyst devices. The devices belong exclusively to the cluster; they do not participate in other clusters. You assign an IP address to a device that will become the command device. The IP address is the single point of access that Network Assistant uses to configure, manage, and monitor the command device and the member devices.

The main reasons for creating a cluster are

•You can manage Cisco cluster-capable devices regardless of their interconnection media and physical locations. The devices can be in the same location, or they can be distributed across a Layer 2 or Layer 3 network.

•You can designate devices to take the place of a failed command device. Having standby command devices safeguards against a loss of contact with cluster members.

Network Assistant features can identify a device as the command device, add members to the cluster, and identify standby command devices. See “Network Assistant Features,” for more information.
