VMware vSAN بیشتر شبیه به یک معماری Hyper-Converged عمل می کند با این تفاوت که امکان استفاده از Commodity Hardware در آن وجود دارد. vSAN در واقع یک کلاستر از هاست های VMware است. هر هاست حداقل به یک SSD و یک HDD نیاز دارد، اگرچه بیشتر هاست ها از تعداد زیادی دیسک استفاده می کنند. vSAN منابع ذخیره سازی هاست را تبدیل به سیستمی یکپارچه و با عملکرد بالا برای نگهداری دیتا می کند که تمام هاست های کلاستر می توانند از آن استفاده کنند.
